Characteristics of Gypsum Block in Application

1.Light weight and specification

According to Germany industrial standard DIN18163 and Chinese national building industrial standard JC/T698-2010, the standard of non-load partition gypsum block is 660mm X500mm X (60,80,90,100,110,120)mm, the tenon head and channel should be set around the block. Three pieces of blocks are installed to be wall of 1m2. And the volume weight is 550-600kg/m3, the gypsum block wall with 100mm thick should be no more than 70kg/ m2, whose weight is 70% lighter than solid clay brick with 120mm thick. Using such gypsum block can save the cost for bearing structure and foundation treatment. The total cost will be reduce by 15%-20%, and can increase indoor area by1%-2%.

2.Earthquake resistant

Due to its lightweight and multi-holes, the gypsum block can efficiently reduce earthquake load of buildings. And its elasticity modulus is very small, it has bigger strain value under a certain stress condition. Well connected with the structure frame in structure, it is capable of absorbing earthquake excursion and distortion, greatly reducing destructive power of earthquake. Thus, gypsum block is an excellent anti-seismic material for the high-rise framed structure buildings in earthquake security zone.  

3.Fireproofing 

The wall built with gypsum block has excellent performance in fireproofing, for gypsum itself contains 20% of water (adhesion water and crystal water). If there is a fire, it can absorb much heat and evaporate as much as around 10kg moisture before the temperature rises greatly. The anhydrous calcium sulphate, which is formed after water loss from gypsum block, can resist the fire well, preventing effectively the fire from spreading. Also the wall built with hollow gypsum block being hollow, vapor can form into vapor curtain in hollow space, thus efficiently playing the function of flame retard to delay fireproofing time. The gypsum block wall of 100mm thick can prevent the fire for over four hours. According to the German industry standard (DIN4102), gypsum block’s fire resistance ranks Grade A1 , belonging to incombustible construction materials.

4.Heat preservation and insulation 

For the hardened gypsum block with multi-hole structure, with heat conductive coefficient of about 0.2w/m·k and hole rate of about 40%, it has excellent performance of heat preservation and insulation compared with traditional building materials. The heat conductive coefficient is one third of that of clay brick and one fifth of that of common concrete. The heat insulation of gypsum block wall of 100mm thick is equivalent to that of clay brick of 380mm thick. Thus, using gypsum block can reduce the consumption of indoor air conditioner. Compared with solid block, hollow gypsum block with its hollow structure improves its performance of heat preservation and sound insulation, at the same time, strengthens its vertical earthquake resistance.
